  9. Timer was conceived while waiting in the phone queue to Microsoft's 
  10. technical help line.  I was beginning to wonder how long I had been 
  11. on hold, and why there wasn't a simple program to...
  12.  
  13. Timer consists of two timers (stopwatches), a countdown timer, an 
  14. alarm with a pop-up message capability and a provision for setting 
  15. the system time and date.  It was written in Visual Basic Ver 1.00 
  16. and therefore REQUIRES the presence of the VBRUN100.DLL library in 
  17. your Windows directory in order to run.

  19. The current version adds these features to version 1.0:

  21. ∙Both of the timers now have split time capabilities.
  22. ∙Timer1 now has the capability to track cost in dollars or cents per 
  23.  hour or minute.  This can be handy for tracking the on-line charges 
  24.  you've racked up.
  25.  
  26. From the main ("Timer") window, the alarm set window may be popped 
  27. up, the alarm can be turned on or off (assuming an alarm time has 
  28. been set), the timers may be started, the countdown timer window may 
  29. be opened, the system time/date set window may be activated, a 
  30. 12-hour time format may be selected (24 hour is the default), and 
  31. you may have the time displayed in the caption bar.  If the time is 
  32. displayed in the caption bar, it will also be visible below the icon 
  33. when the window is minimized.  Note that when a window has both 
  34. "close" and "quit" buttons, the quit button will shut down the 
  35. entire program while the close button only shuts down the current 
  36. window.  Thus, you can start a timer and close down the main window 
  37. to reduce screen clutter.  In order for the alarm to be active, 
  38. however, the main window must be active; i.e., it can be minimized 
  39. but must not be closed.

  41. The timers can be started/stopped/restarted, etc. just like a 
  42. stopwatch.  The timers can also be stopped/started by clicking on 
  43. the stopwatch icon in the Timer1 or Timer2 windows.  The stopwatch 
  44. time may be displayed in the caption (and under the icon when the 
  45. window is minimized) by clicking on the words "Elapsed Time:" in the 
  46. timers or on "Time Remaining:" in the countdown timer.  With this 
  47. version, the timers may also be split.  When a timer is split, the 
  48. time will change to red to distinguish it from a timer that is 
  49. simply stopped.  Timer1 has the ability to track cost per unit time 
  50. by clicking the cost option button; a window will pop up asking for 
  51. the cost per unit time.  If you wish to set another cost later, 
  52. simply click the time button, then click the cost button again.  The 
  53. current system time may also be displayed by clicking the "Time" 
  54. check box.  The countdown timer starts with a default of 10 minutes 
  55. and can quickly be incremented or decremented in 10 minute blocks by 
  56. clicking on the "+" and "-" buttons.  These buttons will also work 
  57. while the countdown timer is running.  The countdown time can be 
  58. manually set to any time value up to 24 hours.  (Ok, so it's 
  59. actually limited to 23:59:59.  Big deal.)

  61. The general time format is as follows:

  63. hh.mm.ss

  65. Time values can be entered in either 24 or 12 hour format (21:00:00 
  66. = 9:00:00 pm) regardless of which format is currently selected.

  72. DO NOT rename the executable to TIMER.EXE.  Windows 3.1 refuses 
  73. to run any program with that name (Microsoft's response: "Yeah, 
  74. that's a bad name in Win 3.1").

  77. This program is shareware; you are given a free three week trial 
  78. period to determine if Timer is useful for your purposes.  If you 
  79. decide to keep the program, you must register it by sending $10.00 to 
  80. the address at the end of this file.  Registered users will receive 
  81. a disk with the latest version of Timer (without the introductory 
  82. "nag screen") along with some of our other shareware programs.  You 
  83. may freely distribute Timer as long as no fee is charged for it 
  84. other than a nominal fee for the media (not to exceed $5.00).  Timer 
  85. is copyrighted software and as such may not be altered in any way, 
  86. and must be distributed with all files intact.  Timer consists of
